When you work with Claude Code, you correct it all the time. "We don't use that pattern here." "Staging is read-only." Those corrections are real knowledge about how a team works, and they're gone when the session ends.

signposts reads the Claude Code transcripts already on your disk and proposes lessons from the corrections in them. It opens a pull request with one markdown file per lesson under .signposts/, and a person reviews it like any other PR. Nothing merges by itself. Claude Code reads the lessons back through an MCP server with one tool, search_signposts.

Choices that shaped it

  • Local first. Transcripts can hold secrets, so extraction runs inside the Claude Code session you already have. No server, nothing to sign up for.
  • Git is the store. Lessons live in the project's own repo, so there is no database and no auth.
  • Only what the code can't tell you. If a lesson can be read from the source, it doesn't belong.
  • Precision first. I built an evaluation set of hand-labelled real sessions early, and at least a third of them should produce nothing. A missed lesson costs less than a wrong one.
